In the beginning

Philosopher Jeremy Bentham was one of the first people to argue for the decriminalization of sodomy in the UK, saying that 'homosexual acts did not weaken men nor threaten population nor marriage'. Nice one, J.

I wanna take you to a gay bar
In 1912, London's first ever gay pub was opened.
In 1936, 30 year old Mark Weston transitioned from female to male. L.R. Broster, the surgeon who treated him here on Harley Street in London, said 'Mark Weston, who has always been brought up as a female, is a male and should continue to live as such'.
Pressure, pushing down on me
The Homosexual Law Reform Committee was founded in 1964, putting pressure on the British government to decriminalize being gay.
Hooray! A start...
The Sexual Offences Act 1967 decriminalized homosexual activity between two men over the ages of 21, with the age been lowered to 16 some years later.
Baby, baby baby oooohhhh
In 2002, same-sex couples are granted the same rights to adopt as heterosexual couples.
It must be love
The first civil partnership took place on December 5th 2005
...and with many more to come!
19 countries have now legalized gay marriage, with many others taking steps in the same direction!
