8 Movies That Need a Female Reboot

Why should Ghostbusters have all the fun?

  1. 1

    Ocean's Eleven

Well, technically this one is already happening. A remake of the 2001 film (which was already a remake of a 1960 film) has been announced with an all-female cast. Sandra Bullock is set to star, along with Mindy Kaling and Cate Blanchett.

  2. 2

    12 Angry Men

This 1957 Henry Fonda film has already had a remake – this one with another group of 12 men. Isn't it about time get together a group of 12 of our greatest female actors (Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Viola Davis) for a subtle slow-burner about crime and justice?

  3. 3

    The Hangover

Didn't we already have a female reboot of The Hangover called Bridesmaids? No, we didn't. The characters in Bridesmaids weren't nearly as idiotic as those in The Hangover. We need to show that women can be foolish, sloppy drunkards as well!

  4. 4

    Bad Boys

This classic action comedy is begging to be updated. The film's central double act could be played by Leslie Jones, who was brilliant in Ghostbusters, and perhaps Laverne Cox – who's like a ready-made action heroine.

  5. 5

    The Big Lebowski

The Dude may abide, but we think The Big Lebowski would suit a female cast. Just picture Melissa McCarthy in a fishing vest screaming obscenities at Parker Posey. Who wouldn't want to see that?

  6. 6

    Men in Black

Women in Black may be treading on the toes of a recent atmospheric horror film starring Daniel Radcliffe, but as a concept it's strong: two kick-ass women showing alien scum who's the boss. Plus, I'm sure the fashion would be a lot more interesting than those boring suits.

  7. 7

    The Magnificent Seven

Another film that's already getting the remake treatment (starring the dreamy Mr Chris Pratt), this cowboy movie could benefit from some feminine energy. Isn't it about time for a Western film that isn't about a bunch of guys proving who has the biggest gun ...

  8. 8

    Back to the Future

Can you imagine how amazing it would be if Martha McFly went back in time to meet some of the greatest feminist icons of all time? Emmeline Pankhurst, Rosa Parks, Sojourner Truth, Eva Peron – it would be like a who's who of influential women.
